FANBOYMAG Interviews: The 6th Letter

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

1. Who are you and where are you from?

The 6th Letter, Toronto born and raised.

2. Tell us about your art. Tell us about your movement. Is it Toronto-centric?

In a nut shell, my music is quite nostalgic, containing remnants of the 90’s “boom-bap” era with a new school stoner twist. As far as my movement goes, it’s a pro-positive movement as well as an anti-tobacco one. Hence, the title of my mixtape (Go Green). It is Toronto-centric and also continuing to spread throughout Canada & the US. I am the founder of my own collective (Above The Rest Entertainment) which consists of two producers and six rappers (Two of which are rappers/producers) from Toronto, Mississippi, California, Houston & Florida. I am also an artist under NeakO’s “The World Music Group” imprint, I’m sure you’re familiar with him.

3. Top 5 Rappers in the game right now in your opinion.

Kanye West, Curren$y, Big Sean, Dom Kennedy & NeakO.

4. Who are your biggest musical inspirations? Who affected you personally, in your career?

I’d say Pharrell Williams, OutKast, Method Man, Snoop Dogg & A Tribe Called Quest are my biggest musical inspirations. Personally, ATCQ affected me the most in my career. Midnight Marauders & The Love Movement are two of my most favorite Hip-Hop albums ever.

5. Tell us about your projects right now current and future, #GoGreen just came out on iTunes I see.

Go Green is my sophomore mixtape presented by The Smokers Club, The Goodie Bag Blog & GoodFellaMedia.com. It contains some phat raps from yours truly over production from producers such as: Talen Ted, Ski Beatz, Big Chop, Raz Fresco, Sir FlyWalker, GlassCity, Sauvi, David Reyes & more. The tape also contains features from Raz Fresco, Brandon Chey, Chill Will, P. Blackk, Fabrashay A, Sir FlyWalker and is available for purchase through iTunes or downloaded for free on DatPiff.com. I am currently working on my 3rd solo project which is still untitled. I have a fresh new sound ready to bring to table. I know my fans will appreciate it. Great music is undeniable.

6. Top 5 Brands right now.

BAPE, BBC, Secret Scientist, Oxyrotin & Ralph Lauren.

7. Where do you want to be in one year? in your career? as a person?

By this time next year I want to have at least 4 solid projects under my belt and be on tour with my team. As an individual I want to be a lot wealthier, knowledgeable and experienced.

1. Who are you and where are you from?

H: Wassup, my name is Hue Jane. 17 year old recording artist from Brampton, Ontario, Canada.

2. How would you describe your music? Is there a style that you like or emulate?

H: When it comes to creating my music, it reflects of what’s going on in my life and it’s inspired by the positive and the negative situations but I’m always trying to do something different to keep my style relevant and tight. I think that’s what my listeners want to hear from me, the chill, positive, creativity and versatility in my music.

3. You’ve started releasing more and more songs on youtube, how has the response been to that… can we expect an EP or a mixtape?

H: Yeah I started releasing a few leaks on my youtube channel, nothing but positive comments and love I got from listeners and artists who are now getting on my shit. I’ll always be leaking stuff on my youtube to get in touch with my fan base. I don’t have a stable date when I plan on dropping my sophomore project but it will be dropping sometime late August so keep smoking that good.

4. Who would you say are your top 5 influences musically right now? and do you only listen to hip-hop?

H: My top 5 influences musically right now are Snoop Dogg, Outkast, Curren$y, Kanye West and The Pharcyde. I dont always listen to Hip-Hop, sometimes I feel like relaxin to some soul music and vibe to The Isley Bros. or some Jimi Hendrix but it all depends how I’m feeling.

5. In the future, do you see yourself moving to Toronto?

H: In the future I do see myself having a place somewhere in Toronto where I can either push my movement in the streets or just hang & smoke out lounges with the homies. [Laughs]

6. What shoe brands are you fucking with right now?

H: Chucks, Nike Dunks, Air Jordans. I also wear a lot of skating shoes from time to time but I’ll rock anything that looks dope on my feet.

7. What do you want to accomplish by the end of this year?

H: Before the year of 2011 is out, I want to accomplish as many things as I can like growing as a person and a rapper. I want to put out one more mixtape before the year’s out and hopefully have a lot more fans to support my music. One thing i’m working on though is to have a home recording studio at my crib to just work and basically do what I’m doing now but on a larger scale and just building my brand with upcoming artists.

1. Where are y’all from and who are you?

Co-$ign: Jackson Mississippi, Sir Flywalker: Memphis Tennessee. We are a hip hop duo and we go by the nomenclature “Da A$tronautZ”. We are stationed in Jackson MS.

2. Describe your music, your style.

C + S: Our Music is a plethora of life situations, from a different point of view. Realistic messages, positivity, and pushing creativity with no limitations. Our style is very unorthodox, while at the same time, relevant and stylish and we think that is what draws in our listeners.

3. Fill me in on your movement, the progression… how it started where it is now.

C + S: Our movement is a collective and elite music group named “Ninja Foot Clan”. We have progressed much, with the promotion of “Da A$tronautZ” and Flywalker BeatZ, getting placement with a variety of artists including Curren$y and Trademark. It started with an inside joke, us calling ourselves ninjas based on how we stay silent, but strike with force, like musical samurai’s. It is climbing, slowly but surely… We are getting a lot of respect from major outlets and supporters of the music we produce.

4. Top 5 brands right now?

C + S: Polo, Mighty Healthy, Diamond Supply co, BBC, and Ice Cream.

5. Fitteds or Snapbacks?

C + S: Snapbacks (Vintage) …although Bucket hats are doper than both.

6. Your career/musical influences?

C + S: A Tribe Called Quest, OutKast, Thelonius Monk, Jay Z, Tupac, NoID, Ski Beatz, Kanye West, Jadakiss, Camron, Curren$y, Sadé, Common, and Talib Kweli.

7. What are your one year goals? Where do you want to be next year when we do this interview again?

C + S: In one year we would’ve hoped to have reached more fans, after our major project “NASA” along with the “GTA” series that starts on 9/11, and start touring or doing more shows. Next year, when we do this interview again, I would hope that we are established as a brand, with a 10,000+ fanbase following. On a circuit making music with some of the top artists of today.

1. yo, how come we never did an interview?

You’ve never asked up until now. haha Plus I feel like it would be weird to say “Yo, interview for me for your site!”

2. true. who is MoShadee? what’s he about? where’s he from?

MoShadee is an artist from Jersey. I grew up in Bloomfield then moved to Newark at 16. Now I reside in East Orange. I’m pretty much about doing whatever it is you feel. Some years back I was all about the music side of things. Now I see myself venturing into any field you can think of that involves art and creating.

3. hmmm, talk about Grove Street. what are the streets saying?

Grove Street has definitely been pushed as my best project yet and something special. I’m proud of it. It’s something any music lover can enjoy. I would say it’s the reason for every move I’ve made up until this point.

4. we did that concert with Moruf, you’re doing The Greatest Thing Ever with Nemo, how did that come about?

Moruf and I are both out of Jersey and have mutual friends. We’ve always stayed connected. I met Nemo through my home girl Jalee who also introduced me to Moruf. Nemo and I did a show together down in VA in March. Once I saw him perform I knew I wanted to be on the bill with him again at some point. From there the idea of The Greatest Thing Ever came about.

5. describe the scene in your city, what’s it lookin like in Jersey?

At this point I would say the scene in Jersey is still being built. People like myself, Moruf, NJ Klan, and a list of others are definitely doing our best to bring our style, culture, and sound to light. It’s in a grassroots stage as of now but, it’s coming together well.

6. you work with Nakeya B, you guys have an interesting working relationship.

Yea, Nakeya B. is my girl. We work on a lot of things together. Every idea that comes to mind between us, we pretty much make it happen. It’s exciting to say the least. It’s dope having a driven partner who a creates and has a vision as well. I’m fortunate.

7. one thing you want people to know about MoShadee music.

I want people to know it’s authentic. I really hate describing my sound but, once you taken a listen, you’ll understand and nod like “okay, you’re right, I get it.”
